How DP Psychology is graded
The IBDP Psychology course is graded on the standard 1 to 7 scale. Final grades are calculated by combining scores from written exams and internal assessments. At SL, 70% of the final grade comes from written exams and 30% from the Internal Assessment. At HL, the split is 80% external and 20% Internal Assessment.

HL students sit a third paper (Paper 3) which presents 4–6 sources from one of the HL extension topics and asks questions on data interpretation, research considerations, and synthesis. HL students also study four extension topics: the role of culture, motivation, and technology in shaping human behaviour, and data analysis and interpretation.
Not at all. While it will certainly be helpful, IGCSE Psychology is not necessary for students to succeed in the IB course.
IB examiners grading a Psychology Extended Essay (EE) look for a focused research question, a comprehensive literature review using only secondary data, and deep critical thinking. They evaluate essays across five core criteria that reward the use of established theories and studies, balanced arguments, and a critical approach.
IB Psychology is often assumed to be easier than some of the other subjects in the same group. However, this actually depends on the student's own strengths, weaknesses and interests. While both subjects aim to understand human behaviours and decision-making processes, IB Psychology's focus is on research methods and the contexts in which it takes place.
