MYP Subjects We Tutor
As a five‑year middle years curriculum for students aged 11–16, the MYP is organised into eight subject groups. Our tutors offer support across all of them.

Rigorous training programme |
Once hired, candidates undergo a six-month training programme to ensure deep subject and curriculum knowledge. This is conducted by our Heads of STEM and English/Humanities, and overseen by our Director of Studies. |
The IB examiners know their own curriculum, so it’s essential that we do, too. Our training programmes are designed to instil strong academic rigour, and consistent teaching across subjects. |

The short answer is that it depends on the school. Outside of IGCSE, the MYP has become an international standard for pre‑college studies, although our tutors also coach for smaller, school‑specific curricula. The particular materials used are generally decided by schools’ own staff. Nonetheless, the assessment criteria are universal, and the MYP is recognised by essentially all schools around the world.
MYP candidates receive marks out of 8 for each subject. There are no exams, so students are assessed based on submitted assignments and class projects. The most important of these are referred to as ‘summatives’, assignments that reflect the summation of what has been learned. Our tutors recommend always putting in maximal effort for summatives.
Our MYP tutors are divided on this. British schools are more likely to offer the IGCSE, and the opportunity it offers to specialise can make the transition to A‑Levels easier, as the two are part of the same British continuum of curricula. The MYP, on the other hand, demands the kind of reflective thinking needed for success in the IB Diploma. It is usually straightforward to switch between the two with the oversight of a qualified MYP tutor.
Yes. However, students may find the IBDP a significant step up from the MYP. It is often in the first year of the IBDP that students begin to feel overwhelmed and get in touch with BartyED’s expert tutors for support.
Yes. Graduates of the IB MYP are recognised by almost all schools as the equivalent of a 10th Grade/Year 11 graduation. Our MYP tutors regularly prepare candidates for success across all international school curricula.
