IB Physics Private and Online Tutoring

Struggling with IB Physics?

IB Physics is touted as the IB Diploma science option that covers everything from the smallest particles to the vast distances between galaxies. It is also the most mathematical science option compared to IB Biology or IB Chemistry; indeed when recruiting for tutors, BartyED finds that many so-called physics tutors in Hong Kong can explain fully the course’s challenging material. In the two-year IBDP programme, candidates are expected to familiarise themselves with core concepts such as atomic, nuclear, and particle physics. If they are studying IB Physics at HL, they will also be required to understand topics such as wave phenomena, electromagnetic induction, and quantum physics.

Without IB Physics tutoring, understanding the vast array of topics covered in the course can be a challenge. IB Physics demands confidence in both theoretical concepts and their experimental applications. Herein lies the challenge. BartyED’s IB Physics tutors often see learners make the same mistakes. For instance, in the exam room, there is often a failure to distinguish between radians and degrees in Topic 6 of the IB Physics curriculum. Alternatively, they confuse the rules of vertical and horizontal motion in a gravitational field which can lead to losing unnecessary marks. Here, private and online IB Physics tuition can make a real difference.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How hard is IB Physics SL?

IB Physics at Standard Level (SL) is very challenging for students who do not have a background in physics. From the first day of class, students are expected to be familiar with a variety of equations, their utility, and how to manipulate them. The heavy emphasis on maths is usually what IB Physics SL candidates struggle the most with, but the conventions of reading and drawing graphs, along with other forms of data interpretation, can also be a challenge.

  2. How hard is IB Physics HL?

IB Physics at Higher Level (HL) instructs harder concepts than SL, and it should only be pursued by students who wish to work in the natural sciences at university. The time of the exam for Physics HL is longer, with more questions on additional topics. For those who feel confident in physics and enjoy the material, HL is recommended; however, it can often be overwhelming, and IB Physics tutoring is usually a prerequisite for scoring a 6 or above.

  3. Is IB Physics harder than A-Levels?

Yes, our IB Physics tutors report that IB Physics at HL is harder than A-Levels, while IB Physics at SL is easier than A-Levels.
