SAT Writing Practice and Test Prep
Why do students find the SAT Writing section difficult?
Getting an 800 SAT Writing score isn’t easy. It requires a mastery of grammar rules and essay writing. This section of the SAT is multiple choice and passage-based; it asks candidates to fix errors in grammar, punctuation, and organisation. With 44 questions to complete in 35 minutes, candidates have less than a minute to answer each question.
A typical SAT Writing question will ask you to find the grammar error in this sentence:
“Luckily, the tower survived, and its tilt has made it an Italian icon, it attracts visitors from all over who flock to Pisa to see one of the greatest architectural oddities in the world.”
Most would say it just “sounds wrong”, but the SAT demands specific grammatical rules for top marks. The error is that the punctuation after “icon” should be a semicolon instead of a comma. The SAT Writing section is full of examples like this and it only gets trickier.
Candidates who are planning to apply for a humanities or social science major in universities face stiff competition in SAT Writing scores. For colleges like Harvard, Princeton, and Yale, the 75th percentile SAT Reading + Writing score is an 800. This means that at least 25% of all students at these colleges have an 800 in SAT Writing. The good news is that BartyED’s SAT tutors and writing prep programme can dramatically boost a student’s score to at least the high 700s, if not a perfect score.
Working with BartyED tutors for SAT Writing Prep
BartyED’s SAT Writing programmes are geared towards each candidate’s needs, strengths, and weaknesses. Should learners wish to enroll in BartyED’s SAT prep course, they will find lessons structured around the following programs:
1) Grammar Instruction
Schools typically neglect teaching children the basics of grammar and punctuation rules, which can hamper a student’s ability to score well on the SAT Writing section. BartyED’s SAT Writing prep tutors drill students in the following grammatical areas which we have identified as the most likely to be tested: punctuation, sentence structure, parallel structure, modifiers, verb tense, possessives, and pronouns. We coach to know the right answer.
2)Past Paper Practice
