How AP Spanish Language and Culture is graded
The AP Spanish Language and Culture exam tests all of the core language skills of reading, writing, speaking, and listening. It does this with a standard AP exam structure of 50% of the grade being made by multiple-choice questions (Section 2, on listening and reading comprehension) and 50% of the grade being made by free-response questions (Section 1, on speaking and writing). The speaking component is based on a project that students research from January, when details of the year's exam projects are released.

The AP exam structure is thankfully a very approachable structure that is easy to prepare for. All four language skills should be constantly reinforced through practice, but for particular exam practice of multiple choice questions and argument responses, the best practice is through doing past papers under timed conditions in order to prepare for the exam environment.
When learning a language, the most popular and effective advice is maximal immersion. Without moving to a Spanish speaking country, students can increase their Spanish exposure by changing the language of their phone to Spanish, watching Spanish media (or English media with Spanish subtitles), and finding someone to have regular spoken practice with.
Besides the joy of learning about new cultures and communicating with new people, many people take a language at AP due to the fact that strong universities in the US, including Harvard and Yale, recommend studying a foreign language each year of high school. Spanish is often considered an easy option to meet this recommendation due to its straightforward phonetic pronunciation, relatively simple grammar rules, and wide international speaker base.
